Planning and Quality Division (DPQ)

The Planning and Quality Division (DPQ) of the Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) is a strategic unit dedicated to the collection, analysis and processing of information that supports strategic planning, quality assessment and decision-making within the institution.

Areas of Activity
DPQ is structured into two main areas, each with specific responsibilities:
1. Statistics and Planning Office (AEP)
Coordination: Marta Graça ![]()
Objective: To develop planning and decision-making tools through statistical analysis, prospective studies, and academic and human resources data management.
Main Activities:
- Preparation of plans and reports on the activities of IST and its administrative services;
- Supporting the management of the QUAR (Assessment and Accountability Framework) and monitoring its indicators;
Monitoring the IST Strategic Plan; - Producing statistics, analysing data, organising and managing information to support the Quality Management Area and IST Management Bodies;
- Development of dashboards and statistical studies (e.g. ‘Técnico in Numbers’, admission data, human resources);
- Collection and processing of data for external entities (e.g. RAIDES Survey, DGES);
- Studies on academic success, school dropout and student performance;
- Management of surveys to characterise the academic population.
2. Quality Management Office (AGQ)
Coordination: João Fernandes ![]()
Objective: To implement and monitor quality management systems, promoting continuous improvement and stakeholder satisfaction.
Main Activities:
- Management of the Integrated Quality Management System (SIQuIST), including the Quality Plan and Procedure Manuals;
- Support for the accreditation (A3ES) and certification (EUR-ACE) processes for study cycles;
- Monitoring of quality indicators and preparation of self-assessment reports (R3AS);
- Management of four strategic observatories: Graduate Employability Observatory (OEIST); Good Practices Observatory (ObservIST); University Rankings Observatory and Observatory for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (OMNES);
- Development and application of questionnaire surveys to students, graduates, workers and employers (e.g. I2AT, IATT, IEDT);
- Conducting scientometric studies and analysing university rankings;
- Support for the preparation of surveys and technical support for the IST online questionnaire platform and management of SugerIST.
