Quality and Diagnosis

Here you can find information about IST’s Quality Management processes, which aim to evaluate, monitor and improve all the school’s activities. IST’s Internal Quality Management System (SIQuIST), certified by A3ES since 2013 and renewed in 2020, is the cornerstone of our culture of quality. SIQuIST is aligned with ULisboa’s Internal Quality Assurance System (SIGQ-ULisboa), ensuring that our processes meet the highest standards of excellence. (Information and documentation on institutional evaluation processes and SIGQ-ULisboa can be found here.)

We conduct regular studies and analyses to identify opportunities for improvement, promoting a culture of transparency, accountability and innovation. We use tools such as PDCA, surveys and other feedback mechanisms, studies and indicator analyses, scientometrics, rankings and observatories to support decision-making and ensure excellence in all areas (see side navigation bar).

  3. The structural documents of SIQuIST are: Strategic Plan, Activity Plan and Report, Quality Manual, Quality Plan, Quality Assessment and Self-Assessment, Annual Study Cycle Self-Assessment Reports, Procedure Manuals, Improvement Plan, Internal Audits, and Corruption and Related Offences Risk Prevention Plan (both under the responsibility of the Internal Audit Office).
  4. Quality Manual

The IST Quality Manual is the reference document that defines the policy, principles, processes, responsibilities and instruments that underpin quality at IST.

Quality Plan

The Quality Plan translates our strategy into objectives with clear targets, indicators and responsibilities, and is linked to the Strategic Plan and its monitoring.

  1.  Quality Plan

Improvement Plan

At IST, we believe that quality is a dynamic process. The Improvement Plan identifies, based on data and assessments, the areas that need intervention, defining corrective and preventive actions.

Procedure Manuals

To ensure consistency and transparency, IST’s Procedure Manuals describe, step by step, how IST’s key processes are carried out.

Consult the Procedure Manuals in the “Procedure Manuals” tab.

Assessment and Reporting

Accreditation and Certification

Assessment and Certification are pillars of IST’s credibility that validate the quality of our courses, such as the accreditation of study cycles by the Agency for Assessment and Accreditation of Higher Education (A3ES) or EUR-ACE certification (by the Order of Engineers).

See the processes in the “Study Cycles” tab.

Quality Assessment and Self-Assessment

Quality Assessment and Self-Assessment offers an integrated and transparent view of institutional performance, combining critical reflection on the results achieved with the definition of priorities for the future. In this context, institutional and study cycle self-assessment reports are developed, which analyse study cycles, services and processes based on objective data and feedback from the IST community.

Annual Self-Assessment Reports (R3A)

The Annual Study Cycle Self-Assessment Reports (R3AS) are a key tool in the process of quality assurance and continuous improvement of our study cycles, allowing for critical and systematic reflection on the performance of each course, which accompany the external evaluation/accreditation cycles by A3ES.

See the R3A in the “Study Cycles” tab.
